Hi, I'm Xuening Xu

Avatar

I am a fifth year Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, supervised by Prof. Xiaojiang Du. My research combines Security and Machine Learning, exploring security issues on IoT devices and platforms, and proposing machine learning-based countermeasures and solutions. I have a solid understanding of ML models and algorithms and hands-on experience with software development to build prototype systems for evaluating proposed solutions. More recently, I have engaged in working with LLMs both locally and via APIs, including building RAG models and LLM-powered agents, to tackle complex problems by leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies. I am also into CTF challenges and practicing during my spare time. Additionally, I have extensive experience in hacking and have earned over $4,000 dollars bounty. Check my hacktivity on HackerOne.

Prior to the Ph.D. study, I received my Master's degree in Computer Science at Temple University and obtained my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at University of Science and Technology of China.

💥 Good News! — Our paper "Discovering and Exploiting IoT Device Hidden Attributes: A New Vulnerability in Smart Homes." has been accepted by a top four security conference — Meta ACM CCS 2025.

💥 Good News! — I will be graduating with my PhD in August 2025 and joining Meta Meta full-time as a Research Scientist!
